Boils down too...

There are books written by experienced herpers, there are books written by people that have probably never seen a Ball Python in their life, there are people that have 1 month worth of experience, and act like they have 10 years of actual, hands on experience. Anyone can regurgetate text, especially if they read it only a few minutes ago.

What I would suggest, comment on what you REALLY know, not what you have read, but what you have experienced for yourself. If you have never failed, you probably have never tried. I lost this clutch of eggs, the original Sulfur female's, due to adding too much water to the incubation substrate. It was my first year, and I have since changed my incubator and substrate and moisture amount. You live and learn, and my advice now, start off a bit dry, you can always add water. If you start off too wet, hard to correct that. Not everyone would agree with that, but that is what has worked for me. I think alot of the frustration people are sensing now is from people who were asking basic questions a month ago, and now are experts and answering questions that they know nothing about except what they have read.

An "oldtimer" once told me to make the vermiculite to feel like "freshly dug earth"! That advice, has never failed me!

An "oldtimer" once told you? Watch out, you'll be blamed for regurging, lol.

I bred colubrids for about 10 years before switching over to ball pythons. During that time I too made my fair share of mistakes. I have found that a 1 to 1 ratio by weight of water to vermiculyte works best for me. This way I know the consistancy of moisture to vermiculyte is always the same. I want to see my eggs begin to dimple 30 days into uncubation.

There are many roads to Rome.

Find a method that works for you and stick with it.

Exactly, there is NO exact science to keeping Balls and eventually getting them to breed. Use advice as a guideline, and do what works for you.

That is great advice, but Kingsnake will be a lonely place once 50% of the people who post on here on a daily basis have to leave......

But I am clapping right now. C.M.A.O.? C.O.L.?
Thank you. Now if only we could get this turned into a sticky at the top of the forum or required reading before registration? j/k I'm being sarcastic (about the sticky not the clapping). There should be a sarcastic tool for posting. We can underline, make things bold, create links, but we can't be sarcastic.
