OH MAN!!!!!! I saw those up for grabs, you're lucky!! How big are they and what's their temperament like??

captnemo Oct 26, 2007 04:01 PM

The male's about 5' and the female's at about 7'. Female's heavier bodied for breeding purposes. As far as temperament, they're somewhat cage defensive, the male having an insane feeding response, but they're very easily handleable out of the cage. I've been trying not to handle them so they can settle in and perhaps even breed this year. Crossing my fingers!

Jasin Oct 31, 2007 01:45 PM

Did he say they were proven in the ad???

captnemo Nov 01, 2007 09:29 AM

Yeah, they were advertised as "proven" with egg laying pics. I haven't found any negative feedback on Joe (Hellfire), and he answered all of my questions, so I went for it. Wonderful addition in any case!

ill give you my first born lol

I have a pair that are 8' and 7'. Female is much bulkier. Strong feeders, don't like to be held at all. They take great delight in defecating at all sides of their cage. I believe breeding doesn't happen until they're older. Mine are 3 years old, probably need another 3.

These were sold as a proven pair. I'm usually a little skeptical of that label, but given the pics I saw of them and the reputation of the seller, I decided to give it a shot. At 6 years, they should be plenty old enough.

Way cool snakes....hope somethin' good happens!

Joe is a great guy!
And I really like Timor Pythons.

However, having kept and bred Python timorensis....I would have a difficult time including them in Morelia.

These snakes do not look or act like ANY of the other Morelia!

(they also have a lovely habit of defecating on you when you hold them. I mean like almost EVERY time you pick them up... they will void their cloaca) LOL!

Correct me if I'm wrong....but I believe they were removed from Morelia and classified as Python timorensis back in 1993.

Anyway, aside from the frequent "handling induced defecation" (LOL)...I really like Timor Pythons. They have in incredible iridescence. And the posterior third - half of the animals are like patternless bronze velvet!
Truly a beautiful, if mis-understood, species.

Honestly, they remind me more of some strange, shy and nervous dwarf retic species... than of any Morelia. Just my opinion.

Best Wishes with your new snakes.
They are wonderful.

A little tip:
Give them a tight hide space. They really like to feel secure inside of a tight fitting hide tube. It really seems to impove breeding results. I have used the heavy cardboard tubes from inside of big carpet rolls with great success.
You can get them at any HomeDepot or Lowes...or a carpet store.
Cork Bark logs will also work well...but they are a little more costly...and are easily soiled....uhhh defecation!

I just did some checking and you're correct...they are in the Python genus. As for the hide tube suggestions, thanks for the advice...I'll be sure to implement them. For now, everyone to the Python forum!!! LOL

That is something I've been looking for. Let me know when the eggs hatch. First time I've been to this forum. Glad I stopped by. Tons of good stuff.

How about I let you know the first time I see copulation first? Sorry, but I'm kinda superstitious! LOL
