Apology to Brad and others...

JenHarrison Oct 25, 2007 12:55 PM

Brad, I apologize for any offense you took to my posts. I wasn't saying anything negative about you, your husbandry, or your business -- just responding to that customer who had mentioned feeding every day. A little hard to tell sarcasm online, so I took it too seriously. I can tell from everything I've read about you here and on the BOI, that you're a reputable person to do business with and would never do anything to put your animals at risk.

To others, you're right. I don't have any experience other than my piddly collection of 25, I have only bred one year so far and that was only 3 clutches, and I don't know anything compared to the rest of you. All I know is what I have read and what I was taught by others -- apparently not all of it was correct or always applicable. There are different ways to do everything and while I was just voicing my opinions on the topics, people took it as me telling others what to do or what not to do, and that wasn't my intention. I should have just shut my mouth and let all the big boys play without my interruption. I get that now. I apologize for any offense anyone took, anyone that I pissed off (except Rene, because we just don't like each other period), and acting like a "know-it-all" in everyone's eyes despite that being farthest from my intentions. One thing I hate about forums -- there is no way to read tone or personality through written posts and that is evident here by how all of you took what I wrote, and how I also took what others wrote. I'm sorry that that's how my posts were read and how they came off. I write very factually and bluntly and that sometimes can be taken for arrogance or attempting to sound like an expert -- which if you knew me personally, is nothing like how I am.

Aside from Rene, I hope no one else's opinions of me were turned negative and if they were, then I'm sorry it ended up that way. I hope to be able to change that in the future.

Until I gain more experience, I think I'll just stick to "nice pic" and "you need a thermostat". LOL! Thanks all...

Most of your posts on the matter seemed hostile or at the very least disapproving and since most people knew of your inexperience, they took offense. If you had been speaking to me, I would have taken it that way as well.

And for that I apologize. As I mentioned, that's just how I write -- often comes across different than intended.

Stick to your guns... You made statements that you felt strongly about. Why should you have to back down from what you think is right, regardless of experience.. 90% of these breeders with money and morphs have NOT been around long enough to determine if their ideas are anymore correct or incorrect than yours.. This means they haven't owned a ball python that they have overfed until it died of natural causes.. If there are "whispers" or "rumors" that overfeeding causes premature death, that is more than enough reason to stick to the "normal" feeding routine... Just because they have bred 18 month old, 1500 gram females doesn't mean they know what's to come in the future for these animals.. Its one thing to use or pass this "trick" in private but to post it on a public forum not knowing what "could" happen is completely irresponsible to pet owners, inexperienced keepers and pretty much anyone else who comes here for knowledgable/safe information. I bet there are plenty of ball pythons that are 20ys old that have been feed on the moderate feeding schedule.. If its not broke, don't fix it... They justufy the "you have no proof" with dollar signs and can't claim any other REAL reason why they over feed their morphs.

Nc Boa what part dont you understand?? The guy that posted that in the begining was just joking, I believe we sorted that out maybe you missed those threads but I think jen and everybody on here knows that he was joking around, do you think we could get passed this now and maybe some people could just post some pics or something. I think everybody on here has had enough of this topic you seem to be a responsible herpatologist that is very commendable, I think you have a lot to offer the herpatological community. I hope this helps clear things up for you I dont think John will ever joke around on here again I hope we all can find it in are hearts to forgive him. Thanks again Brad Boa

Brad, I'm sorry.. My posts are not to "attack" any certain person, I have no hard feelings for you or anyone else on any forum but I do feel strongly and will heavily debate something that I think is incorrect information.. Wrong information that could fall into the hands of an inexperienced pet owner.. At the end of the day and business aside, we are all a bunch of weirdos who like snakes.

This may seem like a soap opera, and you're right, it is kind of dramatic -- but as a person who enjoys this hobby and the people in it, I felt this thread was necessary as I recognized my mistakes and would like to keep as many friends in this community as possible.

Why single me out. I have nothing against you other than what you just admitted to in your post. I sure don't have any hard feelings or hold any grudges against anyone not even you. I think if more threads on here were allowed time to work themselves out people would get along better. Sure there would be the occassional post that just gets completely out of hand but look where this thread all leads to!

Don't hate me too much.

My issues with you stem not from anything here, but things elsewhere. Both in the past and currently in the present. Let's just agree to disagree and move on. I don't want any more drama.

I am also sorry for starting this whole thing. I was not trying to imply that I feed my snakes every day. I feed my snakes 2 to 3 times a week. Some people might not agree with this, but this is what works for me. I was trying to make a sarcastic remark that was taken the wrong way. The one good thing that has come out of this is that the froum has been booming ever since and alot more people have been participating in it, which is good to see.

Hey,

I've always thought you were a stand-up person with a lot to offer. We're all learning this great hobby with each season, and you've offered good advice to many people on here (based on experience you've had) and gotten some good advice from others when you've had issues. One thing, you've always been honest and straightforward, and you're always looking to get better. You are helpful, encouraging, and have a place here.

The issues on feeding and breeding are common themes that come up here often. People who are newer to the hobby often mistakenly assume that feeding too often and breeding too early are bad- without any research to back this up. The spider you purchased from me ate 2-3 times a week and got to 700 grams in 6 months, and produced a beautiful bumblebee male as a 6 month old father!

Guys, don't be too hard on Jen. She is a pleasure to do business with, has a great passion for her animals, and is just trying to do what's best for her collection.

Blessings!
