When are we as a group here in Texas going to finally take a stand and fight back? 100 of us could show up at the next meeting and to be honest it wouldn't make a bit of difference to them! The number of breeders/keepers here in Texas is amazing and if we would all chip in $20,$30,$50,$100 each we could hire an Attorney. Then and only then will our words count. They are on auto-pilot passing whatever they want right now, but if we had a lawyer they would also have to fight to pass these laws instead of us having to stand alone fighting a losing battle all by ourselves.

Jeff,
I know you don't run auctions on Kingsnake but maybe adding an extra classified section for us to place animals forsale solely for the purpose of putting the funds towards getting an attorney might be a good ideal?

There are some people in the Austin area that would like to attend, what time is the right time to show up?

how about some "public notices" on the tables at the San Antonio show this weekend?

That may draw in a few extra folks... Short notice, but I am sure that some would make it that till now had no clue what was being done to the herping hobby.

A bigger turnout will not hurt us

Does it strike anyone as ironic that they have these meetings when most working class folks are working and can't attend?

I noticed that, if they had them on a Monday or Friday at least you could use up some weekend as travel time in or out... But noooo it has to be the middle of the week.

Which 5 constrictors are to be 'controlled'? I believe 4 are anaconda, retics, burmese, & rock pythons. What is the fifth species? Possibly scrub pythons?
Are non-indigineous venomous species anything not described as being found in Texas or does the term apply to anything not found within the U.S.? If we are to have a permit system for non-indigenous venomous species then we should appropriate the fees to develop an antivenin bank such as Miami-Dade. Are there any plans for such or is this just another way for the state to make money and give nothing back to people it affects? Will the permit system require being mentorred by somebody with XXX hours of experience with venomous species? What about people already in possession of such animals for either commercial or recreational purposes, will confiscation take place until they complete the number of hours of mentorship? How will the zoos handle the huge influx of animals or will they simply be euthanised?
Also, is there a complete list of email addresses & phone numbers for all TPWD officers & officials associated with this to attempt to question them directly about these matters? I have found several from TPWD's website, but with only fax numbers & snail mail addresses if I remember right. Posting a link with all such info on every page associated with these hearings would be a wonderful idea for people to get a direct contact immediately after reading about the atrocious way some of these activities have been perpetrated against us.

Regards, John

Don't be silly. None of that's going to happen.
The primary function of the new rule is to generate income for the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department. Go to Representative Hilderbran's web page and read it for yourself. That's what HB 12 is all about. That's what HB 1309 falls under. It's just one of many subchapters proposed and pushed through the 80th Texas Legislature by Representative Hilderbran, for the primary purpose of revenue generation for TP&WD.
Don't think it will generate enough revenue to pay for itself, though. Just more regulations from those politicans that got themselves elected under the "less government regulation" mantra. Make sense.
