Mojave/Mystic Comparison Pics

Eric Sandoval Oct 25, 2007 05:23 PM

There was quite a bit of debate a couple months back about these. I've hatched out quite a few mojaves over the last few years and never had one look like this. The mystic should be ready to breed in a few months, I'll be putting with a mojave to see what happens.

Thanks for looking,
Eric

Nice pictures Eric. I would say Mojaves and Mystics might share some characteristics, and I disagree with those who say they are just an ugly & dark Mojave.

Eric, is there any way you could put a "normal" in with these two and snap a few more pics? That way we would have more of reference as to what makes the Mystic "different".

Next to a Mojave I definitely see a difference. I don't know if it's my monitor settings or my ignorance but I don't see what sets the Mystic apart from a nice (VERY nice) normal. I do see the pattern difference but is there also a color aspect to this morph?

The mystic is in shed, as soon as he does I'll take those pics with a normal. Here's one that didn't turn out good, the snake in the middle is a sulfur mojave. The mojave in the pics is also het hypo. The hypo gene tends to make them more faded. When I take the other pics I'll find a regular mojave to use.

Sulfur mojaves are really nifty animals, they almost glow. I like them a lot.

As for the mystics, I don't think they look like mojaves at all. To me, they look like their own morph -- just subtle like a YB is.

I have tons of mojaves and a pair of mystics and its pretty easy to see in person that they aren't the same thing. The mystics themselves are a pretty subtle morph, not looking too much different than a really nice normal with some blushing. Hopefully, the super will be impressive as well as some of the combos.

Garrick, that's why I asked Eric for some Mojave/Normal/Mystic comparison pics. I remember when they were being posted a while back but didn't see much of a difference between Mystics and Nice Normals back then. Maybe with a comparison pic of the three it will help clear up all of the debate.

Looking forward to the pics Eric.... hint, hint.

Here are a couple more pics. They're a little dark, but you can see the difference.

Here is a belly shot of the first Mystic I produced in the fall of 2005 , this male is also the father of some of my 2007 babies, further evidence they are something very special and easily reproduceable..

Nice looking Mystic you have there Eric, the female Sulfur Mojave and regular female Sulfur are doing very well..

It's also worth mentioning that the belly marks vary on the Mystics, some have more markings on the belly than others have.
The overall pattern, blushing on the sides, overall dark apperance, and head similiar to the Mojaves are what I look for first, the belly seems to be the least important thing to go by as they are variable, other codoms have variable bellies so this really isn't a big surprise to many people..

You may be thinking that my last pic of the adult on the tree stump is a adult mojave, however it is my founding Mystic ,he looks similiar to the mojave strain UNTIL you put him next to a actual mojave.. Here is the original pic of him ( snake on the stump )next to a classic mojave.. It was this pic that convinced me to purchase him as I thought he looked alot more like a nice phantom than a dark mojave...
