HELP ME

brentnfiona Oct 25, 2007 07:07 PM

I'm new at snake owning. My snake was is perfect condition I've had him since birth he is now about 3 months old has had no previous issues with eating or shedding. Last week he started to shed and he had a horrible shed and when I just looked at him today he skin looks really loose and the color of him looks wore out and he struck the rat but he didn't eat it. What is wrong with my frankie!!!!

Is all of the old shed off? If his skin is hanging it sounds like he may be dehydrated. I would fill sink up with warm water not to hot and put him in it see if he is drinking. Let him stay in there for about 20 min. Watch the temps. Then get a towel and get it wet and let the snake go through the towel that will help get the old skin off. Also what is your set up for the snake?

Definately sounds like a humidity problem. Need to get the humidity around 60% consistantly. It's kinda like being sunburned with itchy skin trying to peel, kinda makes you ill. The soaking will help but I perfer a tupperware container with holes in the top. Fill with water half the depth of the snake and let him soak. You could have problems keeping it in the sink!! This will allow him to drink plus soak water through the skin. May want to do this a couple times a week until he gets better and you get the humidity right.
