I have recently discovered a new problem with my BRB. In his water dish I discovered about a week ago tiny little things (not quite sure what they are but they are alive) in his water. I first discovered them after he was in the water dish bathing. I have since then removed the dish 3 times and cleaned it out only to find the "things" in it again. They are very very small (almost not visible to the eye) and appear to be worm-like. I have only seen them in the water dish, but tomorrow I will be cleaning out the whole cage (putting only a hide and a different dish in with white paper towell for substrate) and boiling anything that I want to put back in it later. I don't think they are mites but I'm not really sure. I have no idea what they are and any insight will be greatly appreciated, as well as any tips on how to get rid of them. Thanks in advance. (sorry for the long post)

It sounds like these things are growing in your water bowl or in the substrate and then getting into the water bowl. Either way cleaning everything and going to paper substrate for awhile is a good idea. Most of the naturalistic substrates look nice but we have to keep our cages so humid that stuff will grow in them really quick. If you do not remove all the substrate and cage furnishings when you are cleaning then some of that stuff that is growing stays in the cage and contimues to grow.

sounds like something growing in the water, though it could be worms. Disinfect everything, rinse well and change the water daily, see if you start seeing the worms again. If you see them anyway, take a fresh poop sample to your vet, just in case your BRB has internal worms that are falling into the water bowl.

Took this pic quite some time ago when I got in some mites on a new acquisition. Comes in handy!

Thanks for the pic, but yeah they defineately aren't mites. They are not round like that but rather worm-like and smaller.

from your description I figured not but the pic does help prove they weren't.
