adventurous spirit?

I have a juvy male veil that I have caught 3 times wandering around at the bottom of his plant bases. As soon as he sees me(and I see him) he turns dark. I think this may be because he is out in the open and knows it. He then starts climbing for cover again.
Is he just exploring? He seems to be very healthy and adjusting nicely to his new environment....he has been in his new home for about a week and a half.

Thanks,

Is he just doing this ocasionally or is he down there all the time? Mine go down there ocasionally. When the crickets get loose from the feeding cup sometimes they hide in the base of the plant and a certain little chameleon used to go find them there. Once in a while is ok but staying down there for long periods of time is not. If he climbs around and basks normally and eats and drinks normally he is probably exploring. Look at his eyes and see what he is looking at down there. He may be scanning the plant base for food. A sick cham will sit in one plase or stay down there and maybe dig at the floor or sides of the cage. That is a sign something in his surroundings is bothering him. temps, humidity, or he feels bad.

I think he is just wandering around....He spends most of his time up top. Also, when I see him down there he turns dark and heads back up quick like he is busted and knows it....feels vulnerable.
