Morning to you all.... I don't post too often on here but got 2 new snakes at daytona and tried to post on the other sites with no response... I am trying to find out if anyone on this forum works with GTP's or retics... I just have a couple of questions regarding the two and cannot get an answer on the GTP site... Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!
Thanks

In addition to burms, I keep MANY types of herps including retics and GTP's (one of my favorites)...my specialty is actually eastern indigo snakes. If you have any questions about either, I'd be happy to help.

Thank you so much!!!
With Gtp's what is their growth rate and is it true that they do not accept frozen food?
With Retics what is their growth rate (I can't seem to find it anywhere)? Also, People have said that retics are very tempermental mine is as sweet as can be for a baby...will this change?
Thank you so much....

Hello,

I just wanted to add some input. I breed Retics and I can say that their temperment is what you make of it. Now, when breeding, male retics will get alot more agressive than other snakes. If keeping more than 1 male, make sure they are separate. (June 99' Reptiles Magazine had a wonderful article on Reticulated Pythons) If the male smells the other male, it will cause a problem not only with you handling it, but with any cagemates, including a female. Proper frequent handling will decrease its hostility, but always remember, this is a snake. I have a male that would not strike if his life depended on it, (figure of speech) and I have others that will bite, EVERY SINGLE TIME. Now I know I said retics are what you make of them, but they are not programmable. Some biters and agressive snakes will always be that way. As far as growth rate, retics have the ability to get up to 10-12' in a year or more. That is not necessarily the best thing for the snake IMHO. I usually feed to get my males up to 7' in a year, and 8' in females. I try to keep my burms about a foot shorter. I currently to not breed GTP's so I will leave that one for other breeders. Good luck!!!
