Shame, what part of Az? I like how the black bleeds down towards the belly.

too bad it got hit.

Here's a little scanner fun, from a different perspective. this snake wouldn't sit still so it's rotten, but it's cool when you get one to sit still, you can get some good shots and makes it easy to count ventrals

hopefully, before a bunch of people risk permanent retina damage to their snakes-you get the same thing by putting it in a large deli cup and shoot a pic from below...

For sure it won't hurt your DOR's

You think this is any brighter than a camera flash? I don't know but I wouldn't think so. The faster shutter speed on a camera requires that the flash is much intense, but of course less duration.

At any rate, I won't do it anymore. I don't want to cause permanent retina damage.

well.....like you said, the flash of a camera is for a fraction of a second, whereas a scanner's light is prolonged up to say 5 seconds or so.....re-read my post, notice the use of the word 'risk',i.e. implying POTENTIAL for damage;not claiming to be an expert by any means.......of course none of this changes the fact you can do whatever the hell you want,it's your animal/pet/friend,whatever.

todd, if i remember that long ago, it was a female if your talking about the splendida.

Joe Forks Oct 28, 2007 08:21 AM

Todd,
That population has a lot of that going on, but it's not an all or nothing gene. There are varying degrees of color from white to yellow. The best one I saw was the male you and I found, but I've found a couple females DOR that were almost as nice, and white.

Holy crud Jon, that is a smokin splendida, I think I'd rather find that than an alterna.
