How old?

bunkerhill165 Oct 27, 2007 11:09 PM

Hey, this is my first post, but ive owned a ball python for about 12 years. Mine is about 18-19 years old, and almost 5 feet long. How old do ball pythons get?
Mine is getting pretty cranky, he just bit me for the first time last year, but turns out he was sick, and i had to force feed him and give him anit-biotics for about two months. He is much better now.
He strikes at me now, lol. I stopped trusting him awhile ago, and he is still cathing up on eating from when he was sick.

The Philly zoo had one for about 44 years!

I believe the one at the zoo was bred untilit was quite old as well.

Just a thought about her snake biting now. I wonder if he is being agressive because he is hungry after not eating as uaual when he was sick. I would step up on his feed schedule for a bit and bulk him back up. I bet he'd mellow back down afterwards.

Thanks, i have fed him last week, and just now. He is very agressive for his food. But im sure he will get better.

I still have 4 of my original 5 balls and they are all over 20 years old - and yes just like people they start getting real pissy when they get older - the fact that he was ill probably lent a lot to it as well. It's kind of weird when a pet you've had for so long starts "acting up" but it happens - seems to me like they go senile at about 20 (LOL). Just try to handle him respectfully and he should do just fine.

Good luck!
