The New Englands are a completly different "line" altogether.

I did breed the Lemke and NE line to each other years ago and the genes are allelic. So they are the same "strain" just a different phenotype. The group of herpers who originated the line got them from the canal area in s. Dade co florida. They lived in the New England part of the United States. That how the line got its name "New England".

What is strange (I have been selling this line for 12 years) I never see anyone breeding pure New Englands. I guess they magically dissapeared into the hobby(?). I have seen some advertised as New Englands. But after further research discover those are either outcrossed New Englands (which changes thier look a LOT) or the seller is just "using" the name ( aka stealing, borrowing, misrepresenting ect). We have seen this a lot on the classifieds where brokers and breeders sell common brooks kings with a fancy name they hear like Peanut Butter, Sulfur ,,,,hey at least the Florida kingsnake morphs are getting the attention. ART is always copied.

I think “the canal” is something of a myth. A lot of Brooks were turned up throughout the agricultural area (and irrigation ditches) of southern Dade County. There were probably a handful of collectors that specifically targeted Loop Road and a few areas right along easy access paved roads, but a few Brooks probably could be from Flamingo or Cape Sabal. I can assure you they were just a bit different in each little locality. Those bone white genetics wouldn’t be from those dark muckland fields or the Redlands. I’m betting they are unique to some specific salt water estuary type habitat where the ground is a similar white coral or limestone rock. Those neonates have a unique look to them. I think they make the case for “Brooks” being a real thing, whatever they want to call them.
