thermostat rack problem

MannyRottie Oct 28, 2007 10:48 AM

I have a vision rack system with a helix thermostat and for some reason the rack is at a perfect temperature in the second from the bottom rack, but the higher you go the worse it is. I cannot get a rack to be the perfect heat. It only goes up to 82 degrees when the rest of the racks get to be 88-90. I also have the helix programmed at 101. Whats the problem?

Where is your thermostat probe place?

Have you checked to make sure that the whole length of heat rope is working?

How are you taking your measurements?

I use a temp gun and my probe is near the heat cable in one of the slots of the vision rack. I do not know if all the heat cable works but it has to because it is heating up the racks. The problem is with inconsistency. One rack will get to 90 while the one right under it is at 83. It makes no sense. Thanks

Are all of the tubs set up exactly the same? Do you have the same amount of cable on each shelf? Also, don't forget that the last 6' of cable is the cold lead - it doesn't heat up. I hope you figure out what the problem is.

Good luck!

I did remember the cold lead and all of the tubs have exactly the same amount of cable underneath them. This is a weird situation.

I have never used heat cable before. If all else fails, you could always use flexwatt. It works great. The top tub is always going to be a little warmer than the bottom, but shouldn't vary, that much, from just one tub away. Hope this helps.

Since you have a temp gun - take the heat rope off the thermostat, run it full for a few minutes and then check the temperature at varying lengths of the rope - they should all read the same - if not - then call vision for replacement rope. The rope is fairly flexible but you should also make sure you don't have any really sharp bends or that it's resting on another piece.

Good luck!
