Who Keeps their snakes prey in same room?

walkerman Aug 23, 2003 11:12 AM

I used to raise Red tails and boy could they eat. I would keep all my snakes in the house and raise rats and rabbits in the barn for food. I had those snakes for 20 years and I only got bit once. I now have a Ball python that I use in my classroom. I was thinking of having some mice in my room also. Will having the mice in the same room as the snake lead to a higher possibility of being bitten?

I also keep my breeding mice in the same room as my snakes. No problem. When I clean my mice one of my BP always lifts his head up and looks around but that's all.
But you have to make sure you wash your hands after handling/taking care of the mice. Otherwise you risk a bite.

I seperate them. I am always amazed when I bring rats in the snake room for feeding how fast they come out of their hides. They practically sit up and beg!
