Almost feel bad for the kid...

Takumaku Oct 28, 2007 09:21 PM

I just got a good deal on a "rescue". It was a child's first pet and after a few months of having it, the coolness factor wore off and the parents have been taking care of it for a few years. I couldn't believe what they gave me for $30.

2 year old leopard gecko with tank, top, uth & heat lamp, metal stand, 2 caves, 1 full bag of aspen bedding, digital therometer, separate container for crickets, and a spray bottle.

This gecko is going to be spoiled because I'm a breeder of tropical roaches (9 different species).

btw, list of roaches:
R. maderae golden
Neostylopyga rhombifolia
Elliptorhina chopardi
Tiger hisser
Blaberus craniifer 'black wing'
Blaberus discoid
B. dubia
B. fumigata
Archimandrita tesselata

Congratulations! I´m guessing the leo is a normal one, right?
I bet the little bugger is going to be happy with all those roaches...

It's not good for the gecko, guess s/he's been lucky so far. Plain old layers of papertowels will do just fine, some people here go for "fancy" tile. (Watch for glazed tile, they contain lead.)

Happy gecko keeping!

I have never heard of aspen or any aspen products (aspen chips) being bad for leopard geckos. Point me to the article(s) that claim aspen is bad for them.

fattiesnleos Oct 29, 2007 07:51 PM

i dont think its the aspen its self that is bad for them, i think its the fact that it is a loose substrate. but yes paper towels are MUCH better. im glad you are happy and it sounds like your new pet will be too.

aspen has a higher chance of impacting a gecko than most substrates. Any how, those geckos are very fortunate. A variety of insects to choose from. I dont feel bad for the kid at all.
