Feeder Mice to Rats

EddieF Oct 29, 2007 08:05 AM

Is a rat fuzzie about the size of a large adult mouse? If so, does the rat fuzzie have equal or greater nutritional value?

Thanks.

i believe that rat pup are about the size of a adult mice. there are some saying that rats are better than mice and they both are still good anyway. most people believe that rats has more calcium in the bones than mice do. not all snake must eat rat from hatchling to adults. example..a cal king will do fine on mice while some larger pits would do good on smaller/wean rats.

So is it not necessarily a smooth transition from larger mice to smaller rats? I mean do some snakes just not take to them and prefer mice?

it dose not hurt to feed either mice or rats. i am going to pick a brooks kings as a example because of their strong feeding response...most of the time brooks would eat just about anything put in front of them i have some brooks that will eat mice and rats at different times. some snakes can be tough to get back on mice if rats has been offer. some can be a picking eater. most of my snakes has ate either mice or rats with no problems.

Thanks. I am not feeding her the largest mice, but I think she's ready to move up a couple notches. For instance, last night she ate four of the mice (I offered 3 but my Kisatchie only ate one I think because he'll be shedding soon). And she can eat them pretty quickly. I bet if any of you experienced snake people saw her and the food I was giving her, you'd say she was more than ready, I just wasn't sure if there's a benefit to going with small rats over large mice if they are similar in size.
