Breeding weight for female thayeri

Dinodon Oct 29, 2007 08:12 AM

What is the average, starting breeding wheight for a female thayeri. I have one that will be Two years old, come breeding season, but she's not very big.
I've been trying to fatten her up all summer but she's not a very good eater.
Thanks.

I don't go by weight but if the snake is not over 24 - 26 inches by the second year I'd wait another. If bred small a little more age seems to help. Mine are usually 30 plus inches, not fat but not skinny by 27 months and that works pretty well.

With me it's by weight. I like to wait until the females get up to 250 grams, but one over 200 with good girth is ok.

I usually hold off till the 3rd or 4th year and I like them to be around 250 grams.

Thanks, they sure do take a long time to grow. They are pretty cheep considering, all the effort that goes into breeding them. I picked up a trio, in Taiwan for about 10% more that than the average low end cal kings. I have only seen 4 in the 8 years I've been here, so I might have just got lucky.
Thanks again, I'll just hsve to wait it out.

Michelle,

Very nice girl...It's good to see Lloyd's work on display again. I can not wait till she lays some eggs for you next year...

I'll wait till the females are 3-4 years of age and 250+ grams in weight...

Later,
Jim.
