Baby ball shedding...

kirokiro Oct 29, 2007 09:55 AM

Hi guys, think my baby ball is shedding....no loose skin yet, but eyes turned blue and body's getting that greyish shimmer.

He hides in his hide most time, so I sorta misted the hide and place it over him to increase humidity. It started about 3 days ago, and I know balls go off feed when they shed, so I tried out a mice yesterday just to tide him over the lean period. He took the adult mice, so just wanna know how long do they take to shed, and when do I start feeding again? Thanks in advance

...usually 7-10 days

... this has a good section on shedding

i found that my baby ball took a lot longer than i imagined and i became very anxious - other people have experienced this too....just be patient if it is a long shed period!

...a watched kettle never boils!

From when I first noticed a dulling of the skin to actual shed was almost three weeks in my case....unusual though.

You're gonna kill that thing from stress! Leave it alone and let it shed in peace! Dude, Balls have been going through this process for thousands of years without your help! Leave it be!

I don't mist the hide but mist the whole cage. My snake has fed whether in shed or not. It switched to frozen the first time I offered it also. If it wants to eat, it will. I wouldn't make it a special point to mist the hide unless you are using an open screen top. You need guages to monitor the humidity level during shed!
