Retic cool side temps/.....

heffner2212 Oct 30, 2007 05:55 AM

I was wondering how low can you go...ive been keeping my boa and tic at around as low as 70 at night as ambient but 24/7 there is always a basking site on the heat pad at 90-95......but 10 hours a night its between 70-75 on the cools ide is this ok?> it seems to be because both of them even at night seem to be on the cool side 80% of the time although I do see them on the warm side too its perfect as if they go back and forth like there supposed to...just looking for some opinions.
thanks

I would go by the temps from where they live. I do not think they have consistent 70-degree nights on Indonesian islands - more like 80 degrees or so, which is the standard cool-end temp recommended for pythons.

The thing to avoid is a hot spot in a cold cage, which you get from just a heat mat in normal room temps. Retics are tropical animals and should be kept as such.

From what I have been advised, 75 - 80 degrees is OK for low side.

Just an FYI on actual habitat temps. Night-time low temps in Indonesia and Southeast Asia typically run low to mid 70’s in the cool season and mid to high 70’s during the warm season.
