Question...O/T

j3nnay Oct 30, 2007 09:43 AM

Anyone in here breed/own Amazon Tree Boas? I'm trying to get opinions/info on them and having difficulties finding more than just one or two sites (and one person who kindly responded to me on the ATB forum).

Please just PM me if you do. Thanks!

Just wondering in general what they're like. Anything to look out for. Kinda like how with balls, the biggest thing people are warned about is "Hey, sometimes, they just don't eat, and that's normal."

I keep hearing about them being cranky, which I'm okay with. I can deal with that. I'm just wondering more about ideal cage sizes, how big do average adults get, how often to feed them, what to feed them, especially as adults, and age that they're considered sexually mature. I keep hearing different things about this stuff, and the one book I found that had info on them answers some but not all of the questions I've had.

Thanks!

cranky yes .they just want to sleep and hang out all day...stick a hand in there at night they are awake and hunting...hold them in daytime...LOL...

they eat rats of appropriate size......alot say feed small and like 10 days.some people let them defecate between feedings.at least between every 2 or 3 meals for sure....

temps like 80 ....82..they always feel cold to me.,,,but they look good....

age like 3 years for breeding some 5......I forget the grams......1200 I think it is......to breed

........they are cool......friend raised them slowwww........then he gave them small rats at 2 years and they grew up well.....then medium rats.....small mediums......like once a week to 10 days..

.....he sprays them every day.......

cage.....18" x 18" x 2 foot high at least????.ask chondro and boa people.....

I love the way they look...Reds, Candycanes - sweet!

They are kinda vicious for the most part I believe? You dont sit and watch TV with a Amazon...well maybe you can but you might get tagged in the face.

I believe GHI Reptiles has a really nice collection, check their website out Jen.

I think they're awesome looking too, which is why I want one.

The one I've got my eye on is grey and has tamed down a lot, but I definately hear a lot and have read a lot that they're a cranky species, in general.

Thanks for the site!
