what is best suited for me?

bellerophon Oct 30, 2007 12:29 PM

I have recently acquired a few Exo-Terra 12x12x18" tanks and I'd like to keep something at work on my desk. I'm looking for something that would not require too much maintenance but would be out and visible enough during the workday. Must also be able to handle weekends on their own and the occasional power outage that lasts a day or so.

Could I get some recomendations?
Appreciate it!

I would go for a male trinket snake. Males stay small, usually 3 feet or less as adults. Trinkets like to climb around during the day so he would make good use of all the space. About the power outages, as long as the temps don't drop too much he would be fine. Trinkets are cheap and full of personality and are usually good feeders. Only drawbacks is that they require high humidity, especially for shedding, and that they will probably outgrow that size cage in the future.

Might also consider a smaller lizard of some sort. Folks find them entertaining and there is less "reptophobia" about them than with snakes.

That is a small cage for any snake. Sure, a baby snake like a cornsnake for example, fine. It wil use climbing opportunity. It will outgrow the cage in a year or less.

Perhaps a green anole. They are diurnal, they will make use of the entire cage, and they are personable. They do require UVB, some humidity and tiny insect food, so I don't know how low-maintenance that is for you.
