Vocalizations?

coffeecreature Oct 30, 2007 12:34 PM

Do kingsnakes have any vocalizations (besides being able to hiss)? I just got my first snake, a one-year-old Cali Kingsnake. At night, while she was active, I heard some soft clicking sounds, kind of like the sounds that rodents make. I'm curious as to whether this was coming from my snake or a mouse in the bedroom wall.

You need to take it to a vet and have it cured(easy if caught early enough)

From your discription, its a cold(Upper respitory infection) If allowed to linger, it could become a full blown respitory infection(sounds like wrinkling wax paper)

Then fix your husbandry to prevent this, its easy to do. Cheers

This is indeed the sound snakes make when they have a respiratory infection.

Like others have stated, it can easily be taken care of if caught early enough. Put the snake's head to your ear and listen carefully to it's breathing. If you hear any wheezing, or clicking sounds do the following ASAP!!

* Raise the cage temp to 88-90 degrees(for approx. 14 days. use reliable thermometer down on substrate...do NOT guess)

* If temp. raise doesn't cure it, it needs to see a vet quickly for administration of antibiotics(Amikacin, Baytril)....this should NOT be treated lightly,.....if gone untreaded, it can quickly lead to the snake's death!

Hope this helped, ~Doug
