Crestie VS Millipede

AndrewFromSoCal Oct 31, 2007 03:29 PM

Does anyone have their cresteds housed with a millipede? I was feeding my girl last night, and she lunged at the millipede's head twice. I took the millipede out, put the food in, and then put the millipede back in. Maybe she just got confused because the 'pede was near her food? They were both eating the CGD after that. Anyone seen anything similar?

Well, multi-species housing always presents the potential for conflict. I guess if you don't see aggression at other times, you've found a workaround, but it sounds like that millipede might get harassed to death eventually if the gecko keeps up the assaults. To be fair, cresteds in feeding mode are fairly nippy/likely to strike at anything that moves, so I'd be even more worried about this when you feed crickets...

so can same-species housing. therefore, just the fact that there are more than one species may not be the actual source of conflict.

It's just an experiment. Like I typed in another post, the G.A.M. is one of the species that Repashy houses with his own cresties. I decided to try it out for myself. If they continue to bother each other, i'll remove the millipede.

It's not fair to say that two species living in the same space means that they will fight. Not everything in nature is always at arms. In the wild, they don't live in perfectly sterile environments, right?

Never said it was guaranteed that they would fight, just that it was possible, and that it certainly wouldn't surprise me. Anyway, good luck with it.
