Jungle Carpet Cage Ideas

SneakySnakesINC Oct 31, 2007 06:51 PM

Hey guys,

I'm interested in getting a pair Jungle Carpets in the near future, and I'm trying to come up with ideas for caging. My boyfriend is great with building, we just need some ideas as far as size is concerned.

What would be an ideal size to house an adult pair of JCP's, and what would be the best way to heat such an enclosure?

I would love it if you guys wouldn't mind posting some photos of your cages.

Thanks!

well i think you might get a few mix reviews here as far as housing them together but PERSONALY i wouldnt house them together only time any of my snakes go together is for breeding anywhos if yoru gonna be building a cage i would suggest one for each and if size isnt to big of a issue i personaly would build each cage 4'L 2'D 4'H that is if you have the room i think that would make a nice display with enough perches and random thigns in there to look nice etc. and for heating i would have heat tape on the bottom but alos run either a larger heat panel in each cage or a basking light in a mesh cage so the snakes cant touch it etc. if using a heat panel i would also suggest a flouresent light just to brighten up the cage a lil.

but these are just my opinions.

Thanks for the reply. I didn't word my post very well, not that I look back on it. Right now I'm just looking for a cage design, and once I have one built, I'll work on a second, but both will be a bit time consuming. If the snakes were housed together, it would only be temporary, nothing permenant. In fact if I have one built and it turns out to take up all the space I have left, I may just stick with one snake until I have more room.

Anywho, I like your ideas for the cage design, and I'll definitely use some of them when I draw up designs, I get confused with all the options for heating out there, so I guess once the actual cage frame is built I'll have to see what would work best.

Thanks!

For caging, I would go with as big a cage as you can that will suit the needs of an adult carpet. Min size would probably be somewhere in the neighborhood of 3X2X3. A great feature of our cages is a "hide area" which consists of a "drawer" below the cage that is connected to the main cage by a hole in the main cage floor. The snakes can go down into this hide area. I would suggest having such a feature, which increases the usable area with only an 8-10" addition in the height (depending on the drawer size).
I keep my adults together year round, but you have to be careful with feeding, as it is a bit tough to untangle 2 jungles that have grabbed the same food item. Other than that, my adult breeders do just fine.
Good luck,
