Gut Loading Mealworms

Seanu13 Oct 31, 2007 10:54 PM

Can you just place a potatoe slice in the container with the mealworms and let them have at it for 24 hours and then they're gut loaded fine?

And when you do and you put them back in the fridge, they remain technically loaded while in there right? So that you can just take them out and feed them ready to go.

you could do much more,
I just throw in old oatmeal cookies, or unfinished granola bars. Mealworms will pretty much eat anything. Just try anything that is dry with high grains and high nutrients.

hmm what about oatmeal (whole/dry, not ground up) also? I also read about the cricket food (that dust stuff) being mixed in with the mealworms. and apple slices and carrots

cheerios are a good source too, i heard you can even use tropical fish food, but I don't know about that one for sure. I just keep mine in a cricket food substrate. its not too bad when it comes to sifting them out. They wont eat when in the fridge. Not sure about the gut load staying. I usually just warm mine up every couple days or so to let them eat. The potato slices are more for moisture I think, i dont think it would hurt to throw one in when they are warmed up to eat.

I keep the process very simple and use oatmeal and babyfood as a base that they live in. Then, carrots and potatoes are fed regularly.
