Question on making Albinos

SneakySnakesINC Nov 01, 2007 12:02 AM

I've recently been struck by the ball-breeding obsession, so this is all new to me, but I have a quick question that I'm sure all you experienced morph breeders will be able to answer.

If I breed a 100% het albino male to a normal female, and then hold back the females from that clutch and breed them back to the male, what are the chances of that producing albinos? Is there any chance at all?

Thanks!

If you breed a 100% het x Normal you get:

50% Normal
50% Het. albino

so say you have 4 babies, 2 will be het for albino..but which 2? they could both be male..they could both be female.. or one of each..
All these will look like normals. If by chance you have one female thats by chance part of the 50% het albino then you'll have,
100% het albino (father)x 100% het albino (daughter) you get:

25% Normal
50% Het. albino
25% albino

so if you have 4 babies, 1 will be normal, 2 will be het and 1 albino.

if your female daughter does not prove out then you start the process over with a 100% het albino (father) x a Normal (Daughter)

I hope this helps

The numbers i used are just examples... you may get more than 4 eggs.. maybe less.. theres always alot of chance involved when it comes to genetics. 100% het x 100% het would better your chances for your goal of an albino but ive neard of hets not having an albino in a clutch.

hope this helps
