disinfecting solution...

bergmantis Nov 01, 2007 11:56 AM

When changing the newspaper in my cages, I was wondering if I can use rubbing alcohol on the cage floor to disinfect the small wet spot. If so, does it matter if its isopropyl, ethyl, ethanol? If this is a bad idea, is there another alternative safe disinfectant to use weekly?

Thanks,

Mat

I use quat plus or quat plus tb. It works great, and you can get it for a good deal. You just spray it on, and let it soak for a few seconds, then wipe it off. I make sure that it is dry before putting my snake back into their cages. I have been using it for 6 months now, with no ill affects. I bought a case of it for around $40. Hope this helps.

no don't use alcohol, when it gets wet it reconstitutes. Most folks use Nolvasan.

I use a product called "Roccal D" that is the ultimate disinfectant. When properly diluted it can be used every time you clean your cages.

Can you use a vinegar solution to clean out tanks? I started using vinegar in my rinse cycle when my son was young because I cloth diapered, and vinegar is one of the best things to use to disinfect and whatnot.
