Arizona hoggin'

Cenobite Nov 01, 2007 10:44 PM

I've gotten so much good advice from this forum over the past year, I figure it's about time I at least get on here and share a few pics from 07. It was a really good year for hognose. The ones pictured here were all found over two weekends. I keep very few wild caught hognose. I figure they are easily bought on the open market so why take them from the wild. I do however, love to photograph them.

Wow, awesome pics. What part of the state is that in? What type of camera did you use?

Great Pics!
It must feel good to go out and find that many at one time!
I am from Florida and we have lots of trees and swamps etc. so finding herps can be tricky cause of all the hiding places. Some snakes are easy to find but some take a lot of work and luck as we have so much fragmentation that a lot of species are hard to find ....to many DOR's! ; (
I would assume the hogs feed mostly on spadefoots but how about lizards?

AZ heterodon can be hard to find also. I'm finally learning enough about them to make the hunt a little easier. I hope to make it out to your neck of the woods someday and look for simus and platyrhinos. I've never know the local mexican hogs to eat lizards but the ones that I have brought home and kept will usually eat rodents on the first try.

.......well good luck finding simus if you come here they seem to be in small colonies in certain areas only....i live in Tampa which is close enough to Hernado county for a road trip and have looked a few times wuth no luck but I think you have to look all the time to find them here. Good luck though!
