SOMETHING IS KILLING ALL OF MY COLLECTION, PLEASE HELP!

Zeus Aug 23, 2003 03:56 PM

i cant believe it. about a week ago my adult male frilled dragon died. i thought it was of old age. then i went away for a couple of days and when i came home today i found my bearded dragons both dead. i take VERY good care of my animals. i am very worried about the rest of them, especially bella(rhino) and cappuccino(blue tegu). they both seem to be eating well and healthy but whatever killed the rest of them killed them FAST. i am taking a stool sample to the vet first thing monday but what else can i do. i posted this on this forum because i trust you guys the most and of course because i have bella. any help would be great. thanks

I'm sorry to hear of your troubles. First off check the obvious. Get that stool sample in and check all of your habitats. It's been really hot here lately and I've had to time the lamps to go off in the afternoon for several hours or my lizards are overheating. Look for spider webs or strange insects in the substrate. Who watched your animals while you were away? Did they feed anything unusual? Wild bugs or plants? Can you have the BD's necropsied?
I hope this is the end of your problems.

thanks for the response. i have checked for bugs and spiders and have found nothing. they were fed all the correct foods while i was away. the only thing i can think of is something internally. they are both still eating like champs so tomorrow morning they should do there business and i will take it right to the vet. if anyone can think of anything else please let me know. thanks

Do you have a carbon monoxide detector? That could also be a problem. Last winter when we had furnace problems I lost several animals.
