Toxic Material?

sean1976 Nov 02, 2007 06:11 PM

Heya guys,
Anyone know if latex is a toxic material in a BRB enclosure?

I found formed cocanut fiber that would be a great non/low mold option for on top of cocanut microfiber in a moss hide but it is coated in latex(not visible but can feel it) to help hold the shape.

If it's non toxic it would work great and I assume it is not toxic in general but I was not sure if there are any issues from it in a warm or wet environment.

Any info would be greatly apperciated.

Sean.

Sean,

Not sure, but I'd be hesitant to use latex because of possible
inhalation of the latex particles. See "inhalation" section at:

http://www.mayoclinic.com/print/latex-allergy/DS00621/DSECTION=all&METHOD=print

I know this article applies to humans, so it might be perfectly safe for snakes. But floating latex particles in a snake enclosure would make me nervous.

Well it wasn't that I was going to aply the latex myself it is applied when it is manufatured.

The particles do not sound to good so I might hold off unless I hear otherwise.

Of course are the particles any worse then the dust particles from the cocanut microfiber substrate or the newspaper, etc...

Oh well, just looking for something that will function the same as sphagnum for hiding under/shedding but will not mold as easily. The search goes on.
