After a couple months of reading and deliberating (and lurking here), I finally decided that a pair of BRBs would be a great addition to my collection.

I had a similar LPS experience to Wasp's about a week ago. I just picked up my new 1.1 pair of BRBs tonight. I visited them at the store just about every night this past week!

Female:

Male:

I picked these up for just a bit more than I VERY NEARLY spent on babies at a local show just a week prior.

The story I got on the pair (take it with a grain of salt):
The female was purchased at a reptile show a couple of years ago by a regular customer of the store. The kid moved off to college and couldn't take her with him, so he sold it to the store. (he was a regular customer of feeder rats at the store) She was obviously well cared for as she is quite heavy and is very mellow.

The male is about 4 feet long and was an escapee (living IN the store) for approximately the last two years! They found him soaking in the toilet shortly after the female was traded in. The last time the store had BRBs was a batch of babies roughly 2 years ago.
He is a bit head-shy and has bitten two of the store employees, but he calms fairly quickly in the hand. I am sure he will calm down with a bit of gentle handling.

They are in quarantine now. Once I confirm their health and get a fecal done on each I may decide to go ahead and cool these yet this year. I am not in any rush to breed them, but I am not planning on taking the rest of my animals off feed until early/Mid-December anyway. It'll give me plenty time to gage their condition by then.

I am looking forward to sharing my experiences on these lists.

Congrats on the new additions! Your story is more similar to mine than you think. What I did not mention in my post was that I saw them a little over a week ago, but had to wait to take them home. I also visited them almost every day at the store, lol!!

Your pair is very nice, and that male is quile the looker. I love the story behind him as well.... found in the toilet!! Amazing that he could live for 2 years at the store. One of my baby California Kingsnakes got lost at the pet store the day I sold it to them. Hopefully someone will find it alive someday.

Keep posting pictures of your pair.... we LOVE pictures here.

Hope you stick around!

Paul,
...Welcome to the forum. Great looking BRBs. I would imagine in the typical reptile oriented pet store there are plenty of escapee mice for a young BRB to feed on. It does seem odd that they did not see a shed skin at least occasionally.

Hey Paul, Congrast on the new BRB's. Now that you've "stopped lurking" and posted pics of your BRB's we'll all be expecting you to chime in now and again. Since you have been lurking you should already know the drill....

Pics are a must!!!!

Questions always welcome!!!!!

OK, then... Here are a couple from earlier tonight.

Male:

Female: This is her in a Iris CB-38 (largest I have room for in Quarantine). This should provide a good idea of her size.

Good news. The male's first fecal checked out clear. 500x (wet mount slide) and no motility.
I'll be checking it a couple more times before I regard him as "all clear".
