Crickets?

kyle1745 Aug 23, 2003 04:15 PM

I bought 1000 3/16th crickets for my frogs, and just wondered how long they will keep in just the small cardboard tube they came in? I just bought them as a snack, and I do not have any desire to breed them. At least right now. I actually want to buy smaller ones and a smaller quantity, but this is what they had.

Any Ideas?

Well do you have other animals to feed them to because usually crickets don't live for more than a month even if you put them in a larger container with food and a water source, and much of that time they will probably be to large for most darts. keeping them at a cooler temperature will slow there growth but don't keep them below 68 or 70 degrees. I have never tried to keep them in the container they come in but I have tried to keep a hundred or so in a seperate container for feeding and I have found that if they don't have food and water they are quickly cannibalistic and most will die within a 4 to 7 days.

4-7 day is enough, I just got them as a snack, and like I said I wanted to get a lot less, but they only had 1000. I will feed them to them for a few days and then pitch the rest. My azureus loved them.

hi
you should be able to feed all your frogs on the cricket size you have. even the imatators could eat some of them. you just have to pick thru them and feed the smallest ones. i feed about 10 crickets per frog.unless the frogs you have are fairly young i don't see a problem. i feed all my frogs crickets because for me its more conveniant. easier to count out and they stay on the bottom of the tank not like flys.
also i don't know where you got them but i have gotten crickets thru the mail at 500 a pop. don't understand why they said you had to get 1000. doesn't seem like a good business practice to me.

It was at a local show and all he had left. He offered small amounts, but was out.

My leucs and Azureus are eating them fine from what I can tell, but they are a bit big for my imitators. One of my imitators is young and about the same size as some of these crickets.

All my frogs seem to like the smaller FF's the best, i've cut back on the larger ones. The smaller ones are easier to deal with in my opinion anyways.
