New Aquisitions today... What are they?

HandInTheFlame Nov 03, 2007 02:30 PM

Hey guys,
My buddy and I picked up a couple of corns at a local show today, and we can't quite place what they are. We were hoping you might be able to help us out...

This is his corn, it was labeled as an amel motley, but it looks a little weird to us... think she's an '06:

....and a belly shot:

and this is mine... she was just in a "grab bag," and I really liked the way she looked. Would be curious to know your opinions, because I can't figure her out...

thanks in advance!
-Jaime

the hatchlings look like amel motley to me

I can see where you would get the motley for the hatchling... I should've included a belly pic, she's got distinct belly markings. I guess I was just curious because she was a lot lighter and almost looked pastel-ish compared to the definate amels in the bin with her.

It doesn't look like the dorsal blotches are fused in the first snake, therefore I'd hesitate to call it a motley. As for it being an amel, you'd have to look at the eyes and see if they have black pupils (not amel) or red ones (amel). From the amount of red on the snake's venter, I'd call it a bloodred - though better photos would be helpful.

The bottom snake is a standard amelanistic corn.

Big one is an amel motley and it appears to many years old. My guess would be over eight and perhaps older. If it's not that old, it could be sick. It's very under weight. I'd have that checked over by a qualified reptile vet. The other is an amel corn. If the belly is not checkered, it could be motley, but I seriously doubt the belly isn't checkered.

Get that big one to the vet quickly.

The older amel motley is mine, and the picture was somewhat deceptive. She is actually not that thin. She is on the thin side, but not unhealthily so. I'm wondering why you would estimate her age at over 8. She does not look nearly that old to me, and I was told she was about 2 and not bred yet. She is alert and active, has no obvious health problems, and has already eaten for me. I'm not trying to be defensive, I'm just curious why you came to your conclusions.
