Didn't think I'd ever need to post this.

But my sweet little kingsnake somehow got out of her cage. I discovered her missing last night, searched the room her cage is in, but no luck. I left two mice out in the room, hoping to lure her out, but no luck there either. I need any suggestions you guys have on how to catch her/lure her out/whatever. She hasn't eaten since Monday, so I'm hoping she'll come in search of food soon.

there is a whole message board dedicated to finding lost snakes... Just go back to the main page and look under general topics.. You will find the topic: Escaped & Lost Herps.

You should be able to get some good ideas there..

Good Luck

nobody ever responds in that forum, and I don't have time to sift through all of it. I'm still tearing apart my house to find her.

The best advice i can offer would be for you to get up a few times a night & look around your home with a flashlight.. if your lucky you will find him roaming around.

Good Luck!

Rodent sticky traps are the best way to find a loose snake.

They are very easy to get off the sticky trap. All you need is one of many common household substances. Hand/body lotion, liquid soap, olive oil, etc. All you do is spread it on the exposed sticky areas(so the snake does not restick itself) and allow it to work under the stuck parts of the snake. If your patient, the snake will escape on its own accord. Or you can gentle pull the snake off, part by part.

I make sure the snake does not get its head in whatever you use.

Set many traps around the walls and any area you think the snake may be. Good luck and cheers

I went to the store and looked through the "rodent trap" section. The only rodent sticky papers they had came with anesthetic in the glue, I'm very worried that it could kill her or something. I also bought some plastic box traps, though they're mouse-sized and probably won't hold her. I bought several window fly sticky traps too, basically clear plastic with heavy glue on it, but no other chemicals. I'm going to put the plastic boxes out with f/t fuzzies in them, spread the fly traps all around, and hope for the best. I've already lined some of the major walls with plastic bags, hoping to cause her to make noise as she moves along. If she's already found a way inside the walls, I probably won't get much reaction. I set her aquarium on its side in the room, put her substrate fairly thickly on what is now the "bottom" and put a UTH on the bottom, which is now the side. There is a water dish, a hide, and a f/t fuzzy on top of the substrate, and I've put a line of cornstarch along the entrance, so I will know if she goes near it.

I'm really hoping I can find her, but we haven't seen any sign, no poo, no shed skin, not even any of the dust along the walls has been disturbed. I don't know if this means she's still in the room she escaped in or if it means she already got outside. :/

I'll keep you guys posted though, I really love my little snake.

Take some long pieces of masking tape and place sticky side up along the walls. If she crawels on that, she will drag it with her. Soaking in a warm (80 degres) water soak will loosen most of the tape as well as mineral oil. Good luck. I had my rat snake escape, and found him 3 weeks later no worse for wear.

I would look behind warm places such as t.v. fridge, and any other heat producing things.
Search all shoes clothes with pockets (jackets/coats).
Under blankets on the bed, t.v. stands if it's open underneath and dressers.
I have found them hiding off the ground on shelves in the closet.
If not found in the day put mouse in a cage and check the area periodically at night. Make sure you put a hand in the shoes as they can cram into them pretty good. I was fortunate to find my 3 escapees.
Look foreward to hearing the good news saying you found it.
Good Luck,
Joel

I've had a good number of snakes get loose over the years...

The only ones I had a problem finding were 2 baby cali kings. One of them was a super nice black and white striped cali king, that got off of snakes onto mice. And the other was an albino striper. Still never found them, it's been years.

When a snake gets loose now, I consider it gone.

I don't really look for them all that much, I'll check every possible place in that room, and that's it.
Then I just hope somebody finds it while it's wandering around.

Hopefully you'll find her.

When my Cal king got loose, she hid up in the lining of a chair in my living room until she got thirsty. I found her in the middle of the living room floor when I came home from work. She didn't go more then 4 feet after she got out of her cage.

When my male king (Im holding him in my pic below) got out, he only went a few feet from his cage. I have him living in a closet and there is so much stuff to hide in in there he just had to much fun to leave. I found him that same night when I was typing at this computer and I heard some noises from the closet to my right, and I looked down and there he was with his head sticking out from under the door- when he saw me move and look at him, he immediatly backed up and went back into the closet- almost saying- "haha- come get me you s.o.b--" and I did much to his shigrin with lots of musking and tail thumping!

The cats always found mine for me.

This can be bad news for a small snake.
