Molding badly in fruitfly container??

Mothi Aug 23, 2003 04:28 PM

Is this white mold bad in my container? I used 5-years old prepared Methyl Paraben that I still had. About 2 teaspoons in a batch that filled 3 containers. Anyways, its molding now, so I think I need to make changes to my recipe. Maybe add more Methyl Paraben or use vinager. But what type of vinager? Distilled?

Will I be able to get any flies from these cultures or are they a lost cause? They are about 3-days old now with flies inside for 2 days.

I think that the flies that are in there will be fine if you add a little bit of the same type of vinager that you would use in your food

I didn't use vinager. I was asking however what type of vinager to use if I wanted to use it on later batches. Distilled or another specific type.

My current batch has 5 years old left in the closert and forgot about it for years Methyl Paraben. This is what I used years and years ago for making fruit fly medium.

Distilled White vinegar, I just get the local store brand.

Ditto-- distilled white vinegar. It's cheaper and you don't need the flavor.
