Best Setup Question

sean1976 Nov 04, 2007 05:06 PM

For those of you familliar with or using Boaphile enclosures for BRB's I want to know what you think works best.

I was looking at the 421D Cage with one of the heating options but was not sure if this was way larger then needed and which heating option would be best(1, 1.5, or 2) as I don't know how well the heat transfers through the plastic floor.

This would be for breeding as well as regular year long housing. Any opinions/information on what size and added features would be best for BRB's are greatly appreciated.

Finally going to switch over my tanks to side access enclosures lol.

I know there are other members that have much more experience than I do but here's my two cents...

I think the 421D will work great for your snakes. I bought a 422D over the summer. I only got the taller version because I think it looks better and I'm not strained for space. I also only keep one snake in there. My CRB seems to really like cruising the big cage at night. Unfortunately she spends most of her day in one of the hides I have, go figure I buy her a great big home and she hides in a $2 tuperware with some moss.

As for the heating a got a 1.5 heater from Boaphile. This seems to work great and with a thermostat keeps the temps in a great range.

As of right now I'm only a collector/pet owner. For the breeding aspect there are a ton of qualified people to help you out, like Dave and Jeff off the top of my head. They'll be able to give you a better idea from a breeders perspective but I think the 421 will work great for you.

i house my rainbows in a boaphile 3'X 2' X 18" with a 1.5 heat and works great only reason i got the larger heat is cause i am in wi and it gets pretty chilly here lol

I have boaphiles and love them. The heating option you get is key to your temps. Since you live here in CA, you'd be fine with the 1.5 assuming you don't keep them in a cold room.

The 421 will be more than large enough for your BRB.

It's always good to hear what is working for others before making a purchase.

Especially thanks Dave for your input as you are in the same "rough" neck of the woods as I am(San Jose isn't that far from Sacramento ).

Yeah the house does not get that cold and the room the reptiles are in is one of the warmest in the house. I just wasn't sure about which heating option to choose because I have no experience with flexwatt personally.

Out of curiosity do you guys place your cages on the floor or raised up? In my place they would be on hardwood floor if I don't raise them up. I'd like to postpone the added expenditure of the matching boaphile stand/base until later but I could put together a cheep stand for now to just get them up off the floor if necessary.

Thanks again.

Sean.

I have mine on roller bases I made. I like to be able to move things around for cleaning. Of course key to any heating element is a good thermostat, should go without saying but of course has to be said just to be safe!!

thermostat is key and always must be mentioned in case but I definitely have that covered. Specifically I have the ones I am currently using for my 60 gallon tanks and my rack.
