Not Eating

FlagSStaff Nov 05, 2007 10:11 AM

Starting two weeks ago this coming Weds, my young Thayeri has refused to eat. He last ate one small pinky, then attempted to eat a large one, but gave up. Last Weds I got him two normal pinkies and he refused to eat them both. I left them in there for him, but he never did anything with them. It concerns me because he's normally devoured both pinkies I give him in a matter of minutes. It doesn't look like he's ready to shed, so what on earth's going on? Any thoughts, tips, suggestions? Thanks a bunch!

Brian,
Don't sweat it too much- it's that time of the year.

ALL of my kings have been refusing food now for almost a month, including my baby 50/50's.

Just make sure he has water available like normal, and keep offering maybe every 5-7 days...

I think you'll find a LOT of people having the same thing going on with their kings right now...

OK cool, thanks! If I may ask, what exactly is "that time of year"? The beginnings of hibernation? That's kind of what I was thinking, but I'm a newbie to the herp world, so I'm trying to learn as much as I can.

Yes- exactly.

Don't drive yourself nuts because they wont eat right now- they'll eat when they're ready to eat again.

Just keep an eye on him, make sure he has water, and offer every 5-7 days or so...
