Time to cool

wvherp Nov 05, 2007 10:51 AM

I will be trying to breed my female normal corn for the first time next spring. The temps are falling here in the east and I plan on feeding her one more time before cooling. She will be in brumation from late November until late February/early March. This is my first attempt at breeding with any snake!! Wish me luck.

And good luck to all those cooling their corns this winter. May the winter be short and may spring shine on us soon!!!

Best of luck to you. There is nothing more satisfying than seeing corns pip in the summer Breeding your snakes is a fascinating aspect of snake keeping and adds to the enjoyment of the hobby.

I'm sure you've read several articles on the subject so be mindful you'll want to make certain you've kept your corns on heat for a few weeks after thier last meal to make sure digestion was complete prior to the cool down.

Ken, I was going to keep her heated for at least two weeks prior to lowering the temp. Should this give her enough time to empty her system? I will also try to gradually lower the temp instead of dropping dramatically.

Yes, 2 weeks should be sufficient time for them to pass their last meal. Stepping them down to cooler temps is also a good idea.
