Gravid boa/ heating ??

royal645 Nov 05, 2007 05:35 PM

This is my first attempt at breeding boas. I began cycling my boas on the 30th of sept. i put the male in at the very begining, the female had last shed on 9/16 and has had 2 very small meals since and she is in shed cycle now. I missed ovulation but did see some tail alignment but never actual copulation, my question is if she is gravid and i do not yet raise temps will this hurt the babies. i just checked her body temp is 76, she has been on the heated side of enclosure for last 2 days, temp is set at 80 but actual floor temp is 78.

raise that heat up just a bit... make the warm side about 84, which should actually read at about 82, right? If it is a large cage, even a bit higher because the ambient temps will be cooler.

If I remember correctly, a gravid boa is best gestating at about 82.

If she goes to the cool side, you know you went a bit too high.

You would have to go quite a bit higher to hurt the babies, so you have some room to work with.

Best Wishes, Joe
