i need a cheap outside mister...any sugestions?

compasscreek Aug 23, 2003 06:16 PM

i took my chameleon outside this morning about 10am and put him his old cage on a veragated ficus i have. he's was out there until 3pm. after i put him back in his cage(the inside one) he climbed all over the top of the cage. so i'm thinking he really enjoyed being outside so i'd like to get/put together a mister to keep him hydrated. today i used something like the mini dripper but after a few hours i have to refill the container. any suggestions as far as putting together a mister or just get a bigger container and continue to drip?

Dennis-

There are a few DIY sites for homemade mister/drip systems. However they are set up for indoors. My outdoor setup pictured on my site has 8 cages. Since I have so many cages, it makes since to have an auto misting system. My misting setup was all purchased at homedepot. It includes an automatic digital timer that fits on to the faucet to turn the water on and off, hose adapter, hose, tee's, misting nozzle.

$30 - Timer
$4 - Hose
$5.50 - Set of 5 nozzles (fogger nozzle)
$1.50 - Hose adapter
$1.50 - Elbow (if you have more then one cage you will need tee's to)

I hope to type up some step by step plans soon. The auto misting question is asked often, and would be time well spent.

I was going to use a larger misting pump and reservoir with DI/RO water and the works like I have indoors. I tried the above system out and it works fine, no problems. The misting nozzles put out a fine mist and 0.5gmp per nozzle. There are also some pre-made misting kits that hook right up to the facet, but the brass nozzles clog up FAST. I tried two different kit and both clogged within one week (it may just be my water). The above setup I have had no problems with the nozzles clogging, and they continue to produce a fine mist. Hope this helps!
