community terrariums?

fantasyxbabygurl Nov 05, 2007 06:34 PM

anyone have any, let me know what you have.

I was thinking of geckos, treefrogs, anoles, and maybe hermit crabs but i havent really looked into it and may change my mind based on the needs of each and diet and such

just wondering what might go together and what some ppl may have experience with.

BTW im about to get a 33gallon tank, longer than high

well if you did attempt this you would have to research each species to make sure they have the same captive requirements. can you provide a huge enclosure? 33 gal probabally wouldn't cut it. what about heating, lighting etc? will you be able to make sure everyone is eating/healthy? there are a lot of factors one must think about. im not going to say impossible, but you would have to be very dedicated & monitor your community a lot. just some things to think about.

Community tanks often work best if they are not really a community. Try picking species that are active at different times of day, and prefer different habitats. An example of this would be mourning geckos and dart frogs. Mourning geckoes are arboreal and nocturnal, while dart frogs are for the most part diurnal and terestrial. Also try to house easier species that dont care to much about environmental inconsistencies, and dont go for to many different species, two to three is about the max for a smaller tank like yours.
