Odd behavior for breeding female

chondrome Nov 05, 2007 07:34 PM

1st time posting at this forum and my first time breeding any snakes. This weekend I put my male BRB in my female BRB cage. Walked away for 20 minunets and came back and noticed that the female seemed to be exposing her cloaca to the male who hasen't been intrested in the least. Just below her anal plate was a red swollen mass and she would pull it in as shes moves. I have chondros and have experinced many prolapse before and this did not look like that kind of thing. She's perfectly noramal down there when I looked today. Has anyone noticed the female courting this way, is this normal?

My male dosn't seem intrested at all and is always at the other end of the cage. They are both of age and size and 1st time breeders. Any suggestions on how to get his libido going? he hasn't gone off feed like my chondro males do. How long should I leave them together?

Thanks for any input,
Larry

Having another male around always works for me. Just leave them together and only seperate to feed. Mine will go at it off and on for months!!

You are sure you have a male and a female, I can't count the number of times breeding problems have been traced back to incorrectly sexed snakes. It happens to all of us, it's not exactly super obvious, all methods come with some level of inaccuracy. Only true method it to put them together and the ones that have babies are the girls. The rest are either boys or females that didn't take Of course visual sighting of mating is a pretty good indication, boys tend to "do it" differently than girls!! Go figure, the sexes are different!!!

Dave, I'm sure the female is a female because of my original question of her showing her cloaca. Which I would still like to know if this common or have people seen this before? She way to big and thick to be male.

As far as the male I obtained him from you last year at this time. I haven't sexed him myself but his size appears to be male. I'll send you an email tonight.

Update, I have been cooling all my sankes at night only for more than a month now. This morning his body was on top of hers but no tail wraping going on. I did add a hide for them to feel more secure, which I took out so I could see what's going on. Today I'll see if I can make things cooler for them during the day and give them more privicy.

Good idea to take them out to feed!

I noticed that behavior w/D'Albert Pythons which turned out to be, the male wasn't sexually mature yet! Try a "damp box" w/spaghnum in it!

BB good idea and I'll give it a try because I have some of that moss laying around somewhere, just got to dig it out.

Thanks,

Sorry Dave I didn't my male from you directly. I got him from Jeff Clark who got them from you that you bred. My oppligies!

Remember this is my first time breeding any kind of snake and my head has been into my GTP's who are breeding. I just read the BRB's mate after they have been cooled and on the reheated upswing. I'll cool them a bit more then put the heat back on steady and see what happens.

Da, I feel stupid,
Larry

LOL, no wonder I'm drawing a blank on who you are!! Sp he's a 2005 male and should be good to go, one with bullseyes as I remember?

Yeah, they mate after the cooling period.
