My daughter came home with this today...

and I'm not sure what it is. My first guess was a northern ringneck. The only problem with this is it just doesn't have the color of any ringneck I've seen. All the ringnecks I've found have orange bellies and orangish/yellow ring around their neck. This one is pure white belly and ring and it just seems the body color is also different than other ringnecks I've seen. The other thing is she found it just down the street from my house in Salem, Ma. I've only found ringnecks in more wooded settings, usually under flipped rocks and such. Am I correct in assuming it's a ringneck with just different coloration? Thanks for any help you can give, Scott.

My guess is a juvenile Northern Brown Snake (Storeria dekayii dekayii).

Unfortunately my field guide is in the car right now and my wife is at work so I don't have access to it. A dekay snake would be more likely seeing as how I live in kind of a somewhat populated city. Thanks again, Scott.

Not that Oldherper needs the support, but I agree with his i.d.
