OT Feeding time

natsamjosh Nov 05, 2007 09:56 PM

Well, I brought my camera to get some good action shots of Indigo Jack devouring a mouse, but things didn't work out well. He came flying out of his PVC hiding spot when he smelled the mouse, struck at the air several times, and then rested his head on the mouse after I dropped it right in front of his face. Then he started crawling around looking for the mouse! Duh. I picked up the mouse again and wiggled it in front of his face, then he puffs up his throat and rattles his tail... and then bites my hand. (Don't get too excited Bob, I had a glove on. ) Finally I dropped it in front of him and he grabbed it by the a$$. Then he disappeared under the paper towelling, trying to figure out how to swallow the mouse butt first. Oh well, not a good photo shoot. I was only able to get one picture.

... And if you die in an elevator remember to push the up button

Yeah, they are not inexpensive snakes. And you have to get a federal Interstate Commerce permit ($100) to get one shipped from out of state. So far I have no regrets, though, he is a great pet. Indigos max out at about 7-8 feet, I think the record is 9 feet.

Thanks,
Ed

lol Ed. I took a pic of my male double het and it looks like the mouse is just resting on the snake like you would if you passed out on a barstool so here is my pic of him with some contacts on

Wow, that's a nice boa, even with the cool contacts.
What is he, a hypo double het for albino and _____? If
so, which albino strain?

I remember some days back in college when I felt like that rat...

Thanks for the pic. Oh, Jack just shed, I'll try to get some pics tomorrow. Too tired now.

Thanks,
Ed

Awwwwww Ed are you for real Well he is hypo het albino (Kahl Strain Lipstick Line) looking at his tail you can see the missing black outlines and also the saddles are 99% always different looking than a normal boa's saddles. BTW he was looking very scuzzy in that pic if I say so myself and he should be going into shed very shortly so of course pics will be coming.

I need to keep reminding myself that hypo mutant gene is dominant with Boa Constrictors. But I was right, he's (het for) hypo het for albino and nothing else. Look forward to the pics.

Ed

BTW, once he loses the blue contacts, maybe his vision will be good enough so he can see your hand well enough to bite it.
