how many clutches proves a trait?

mistysprouse Nov 06, 2007 12:40 AM

this is my 4th clutch with 3 different mothers all with big bucks my albino male being the father

every baby in all 4 clutches has had a light spot on the top of the head

So that to me indicates he passes that light spot down

how many would you consider enough clutches to prove something?

I know a spot on the top of the head isn't a big deal compared to all the other cool things, but I still find it interesting

attached is a picture of one of this years 100% het for albino babies

Sorry to rain on the parade. One generation is not enough to prove anything.

Mate some of the first generation babies to normals and get around a dozen babies. Compare the babies with the parents. Also, mate some of the albino's first generation babies together, get around 12-50 second generation babies, and compare them to the parents and normals. That might prove something if the problem is not too complex.

ha thanks for the answer

that is too much work just to prove a plain old spot on the head

I just found it interesting that every baby had that spot

I have kept about 3 of the female hets(mostly different mothers) but they will be breed back to the albino

misty, 90% of my hets have that exact same shape. i've seen others refer to it as a mickey mouse shape and it being, i forget which exactly, a fire or a thunder, or one of the mystety gene (?) visual clues.

i'm not so sure myself as that would make me one very very lucky guy - and i'm just not lucky!

maybe those more knowledgeable can educate us all on the mickey mouse shape and when and how its a trait for what.
