Cage Idea.

tokaysrnice Nov 06, 2007 06:46 PM

I've had this idea kicking around for a while, just finally got a free dishwasher and proceeded to gut it. This is going to be for the spilotes but eventually I want to keep some smaller boiga or some cateyed snakes in it. I haven't quite figured out how I'm gonna heat it yet but it'll probably involve a rhp or I might be able to make a sweet dome that can house a day and night bulb.
The front is gonna be closed off with a sheet of xpvc and a acrylic door.
Any input or ideas would be appreciated.
Chris I talked to you about this briefly what other cool ideas do have?
I really want to play with that zoopoxy stuff and I think a totally free cage would be a good medium.

Nate,

I've been waiting for this picture, thanks for posting it. The size reference is a nice touch but could you give us some real-world measurements? We don't have one currently due to our remodel so I don't have one to measure.

The front is gonna be closed off with a sheet of xpvc and a acrylic door.

How rigid is this liner? My only concern would be if the front of the liner needs some sort of structural support, like a wooden face frame or some aluminum angle or whatever.

Currently keeping a small collection of various Gonyosoma. Both G. janseni and G. oxycephala.

The dimensions are 2' square a touch taller than two feet tall. I was planing on modifying the front to attach a 1/2" thick sheet of expanded pvc to act as a litter dam and frame for the door.
The plastic is 1/8" thick but has several fins running the circumference for added stability that I will leave in place after removing some of the non-essential moldings. I have a feeling once I get the front frame and bolt some logs to the inside it will be more than structural enough.

The cribos will be here any moment now! wohoo!

What an interesting idea.

There is certainly an endless supply of old dishwashers to have.

Are you planning on putting strips of pvc around the front edge like a face frame?

It seems like this could be a nice liner for a wood cabinet also.
