GA Press: License approved for breeder

Nov 08, 2007 09:56 AM

Dear Ball Python People;
While We cannot confirm that the following concerns itself with Ball Pythons specically, We thought it refreshing to be able to post (as a change) a press item that illustrates an intelligent and reasoned approach to snake breeding by informed civic authorities.
respects,
Wes, your newt-keeping, pro B-P paperboy

BANNER-HERALD (Athens, Georgia) 07 November 07 License approved for snake breeder
The Jackson County Commission voted 4-1 this week to grant a home business license to a man who wants to breed pythons and the mice and rabbits pythons eat at his home on Timber Ridge Drive off Jefferson River Road.
Ronnie Dean, who lives on a 2.5-acre lot in his subdivision, plans to sell the snakes, rabbits and mice that he raises at home to pet stores, he told commissioners. Home offices are allowed under his neighborhood's zoning designation, but snake breeding isn't one of the home office occupations listed in the county's Unified Development Code, and Dean was required to seek special permission from the commission.
Commission Chairwoman Pat Bell expressed squeamishness about the potential for snakes to escape and voted against his home business license.

I know Ronnie a little bit through a friend who just moved to Georgia. I was told they had tough records requirements. They made it sound like every rodent had to be documented, how many raised and where each of them went. If there is anyone else in Georgia reading this please comment on their license requirements. I'll also try to find out if he is zoned AG or not.
Thanks Mike

Seat belt laws to protect you from yourself...

Grown adults told where they are allowed to, or not allowed to smoke (they will never make the poisonous smoke illegal though- never ever - 'cause government wants their tax money. Uncle Sam is complicit in every smoking related death.)

Too bad about that pesky Second Amendment because guns, and the right to protect oneself would be taken away make no mistake about it. The assault on the Second Amendment continues daily though... What? dont you know? Only the police and government types are trustworthy and responsible enough to be able to protect themselves and their families. The avarage citizen is too stupid to care for him or herself or own a firearm.

Hey, if you want to breed and care for dangerous snakes in the confines of your own home, why shouldnt you have to run it by the people in power and get their permission? After all, they were (elected? put in place...) to tell you how to live and what is safe or not safe for us to do, say...think - right?

This little intellectual elite that people put in power to tell all the rest of us what to do. If things like this in GA or what happened to the Sutherlands, etc...etc..bother you, well look in the mirror and blame yourself, 'cause WE ALLOW these idiots in power to make laws that entitle a very few to babysit and tell the rest of us what to do...

wow.....that gave me shivers! so much for "the land of the free" huh? I can't really say much..I'm canadian.....but I must say, you are self aware. good for you!!
here these things are left in our own hands, but with other issues we are very similar.

I think that the word "free" should be taken out of a gay persons vocabulary. These "elected" idiots tell gay people constantly what to do. Is that free? I, personally, am not gay, but have witnessed on many occassions the bashing and prejusdice towards gay people. If people should not be told whether they can carry guns, breed venemous reptiles, then they definitly should not be told who to sleep with. Land of the free, people.

If we need a license to breed snakes then we should need a license to breed babies as well. After all, if they are going to tell you that you can't breed snakes in your house and you can't smoke in your backyard, then don't you think they should tell when and how many kids you can have as well? Maybe they can roll the licensing in with the DMV so you can renew the registration on your kid and your car at the same time. That would be very convenient.

Funny thing is that I think some people should get a license in order to have children. I wonder why some people have kids.
