dragon lost half his tail!

shortydsm Aug 23, 2003 08:34 PM

I went on vacation last week & came back to find my boy dragon missing half his tail. There is a good 6 inches gone now, I have no idea how it happened. I am taking care of the wound but I was wondering if & when it will ever grow back? I didn't even think dragons could lose their tails. It still looks pretty bad, should I take him to the vet?

It probally has to do with shedding issues. What happens is when there in a shed, sometimes skin on their tails and toes stays on, and tightens up, which cuts off the circulation to that area and eventuall yit falls off. Or it could of got snagged, but mkae sure you mist alot, and no the tail wont grow back.

Did you have anyone to check up on the dragon while you went away? And how long did you go away for?

Reptiles should never be left alone. Even for a couple of days. Anything can happen. The thermostat could break, leaving them with no heat. Always sort out some sort of care for them by someone you trust before going away.

I had my boyfriend come over 2x a day but he didn't notice. The dragon (still no name) has been restless lately, especially since his cagemate "girlfriend" died a few weeks ago, so I am thinking he snapped his tail off while bouncing around.

I looked closely at his tail & there was no evidence of shed.
