some more ratsnake scale shots....quiz

chrish Nov 09, 2007 02:19 PM

Following Doug's post below, I thought I would post some more ratsnake scale shots. See if you can guess the species (and yes, you could cheat, but try you skills first).

All of these are (or were) "rat"snakes.

and for those who like apical pits (a black milk this time). It looks like a choir of ghosts!

No cheating (just guesses..haha!)
1. yellow rat
2. Persian rat
3. Baird's closeup
4. Baird's rat
5. Asian green rat, Gonyosoma (Elaphe) prasina

Cool shots of the apical pits.

Cheers! - Terry

Thanks for playing. Most of you got at least 3. I'm gonna have to make it harder next time (I have lots of venomous snake scale shots!).

Chris, any chance you could post a pic of that taeniura?

Anyone notice the rhino rat didn't have any apical pits?

So sorry, I was traveling and missed this post.
Great post.
I believe one of the reasons many here are into Rat Snakes is because of the color and pattern diversity!
