Cant get him to eat

ginko22 Nov 09, 2007 10:05 PM

I came to this website before because I had just gotten a baby ball python for a pet and it didn't want to eat. However, after I read something about defrosting it on his cage, the heating it up with a blow dryer, he began to eat.
However, now that its become winter, I can't seem to get him to eat once again, I havent changed anything, besides, his hides--since he got to big for them, and he seems just comfortable...thus, im confused...please help.

If you are in the northern hemisphere, you have we we call brumation going on. The ball is going into hibernation. some take longer to come out of it. Continue offering it meals every other week. You could also trick it into beleiving its still summer by getting a sunglow bulb and run it longer for daytime cycles to be as long as they are in the summer. and a slight increase in heat has always been the trick for me. Of course I've only been doing this for 2 1/2 years with the balls. I have done several things in research and I have found this to work the best. Especially for young ball pythons. You don't want to do this if it is the balls second winter though. First winter its ok, every winter after DON'T do it this way let nature take its course. To be perfectly honest its nothing to be concerned with unless your ball starts looking under weight or unhealthy. take care and good luck. No Worries No Concerns
